“This is a golden opportunity to work in genuine partnership with government to set the future direction of higher education in Australia,” Universities Australia Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said.
“When universities are strong, our nation is strong, and through the Accord we can get the policy settings right to build a better future for universities and our nation.
“We welcome the appointment of members to the ministerial reference group that span the full economic and social landscape – from government representatives to groups representing higher education, vocational education, business and Indigenous Australians.
“Universities serve the nation – through research and development and skilled workers who support our economy and standard of living – so it makes sense to have groups representing broader interests at the table.
“The Accord is our chance to solidify the foundations that will enable universities to continue delivering for all Australians, now and in the decades to come.
“We look forward to working closely with Minister Clare, the Accord panel, led by Professor Mary O’Kane AC, and members of the ministerial reference group in this all-important endeavour.”
