SCHOLARSHIPS OPEN THE DOOR FOR AUSTRALIA’S FUTURE TEACHERS

Universities Australia supports the government’s $160 million scholarship initiative to encourage more people to become teachers.

Scholarships are now open for students to apply ahead of the 2024 academic year.

“Teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world and backing them from day one of their education is absolutely essential,” Universities Australia Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said.

“These scholarships will help 5,000 high-performing teaching students to complete their studies.

“We know that attracting teachers to the profession is a big part of the challenge, so this initiative is a positive and important step.

“A career in teaching begins at our universities, where students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and practical experience they need to lead rewarding careers and inspire the next generation.

“We must do all we can to ensure teachers are supported and empowered at every stage of their careers, and we welcome the new national campaign running in the backdrop to raise the status of the profession.

“Working closely with governments and unions, we’ll continue to address barriers to attracting and retaining teachers to ensure our kids are receiving the best education possible.”
