Universities Australia has, is and will continue working closely with the Special Envoy, Ms Jillian Segal AO, to combat antisemitism and we thank her for her engagement and guidance on this critical issue.

Campuses should be places where people can learn, work and engage respectfully and safely – never places where anyone feels threatened, excluded or targeted because of who they are or what they believe.

Jewish students and staff should feel safe, respected and supported on campus, and we recognise the hurt and distress many in the community have experienced.

Australia’s universities are committed to combating antisemitism and all forms of hatred and racism.

Universities across the country have strengthened policies, complaint pathways, support services, education programs and codes of conduct in response to instances of antisemitism on campuses.

In 2025, Universities Australia worked with the sector to adopt a definition of antisemitism to help guide universities’ responses and support safer and more inclusive campus environments.

The sector will carefully consider the report released today, alongside the work already underway through the Australian Government’s Antisemitism Education Taskforce and broader efforts to strengthen safety, inclusion and social cohesion across university communities.
