Media Release 16 December 2022

National teacher workforce plan

The release of the national teacher workforce plan is a timely and much-needed boost for current and aspiring teachers heading into 2023, says Universities Australia Chief Executive Catriona Jackson.

“Teachers play such a vital role in society, helping shape the next generation and setting young people up to succeed in life.

“They have a difficult and rewarding job at the same time, and they deserve all our support.

“We thank the Albanese Government for its focus on addressing the teacher workforce shortage and have appreciated the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation.

“The work does not stop here, and universities will continue to engage with government, unions and industry to give teachers every opportunity to succeed.

“That is in the best interests of our teachers, the students they teach, and our nation.”

Universities Australia’s policy paper on addressing Australia’s teacher shortage is available here.
