“As outlined in our submission to the consultation paper, improving the translation of research requires an integrated strategy that fosters change in both industry and the research sector,” said Anne-Marie Lansdown, Deputy Chief Executive of Universities Australia.
“Universities Australia has long championed the need for greater links between industry and universities. Research and innovation are critical to lifting productivity and transitioning the Australian economy. We look forward to working with the government to find innovative ways to increase collaboration.
“Universities Australia supports the direction taken in the actions outlined, but as with all policy changes, the details of the specific proposals including investment levels are critical.
“Australia’s research and innovation system is complex and a consultative and evidenced-based implementation is needed to ensure the best outcome,” Ms Lansdown said.
“Australian universities undertake world-leading research and this attracts the best and brightest to come and study in Australia, driving our fourth largest export industry.
“A more strategic approach to supporting research in Australia will ensure this industry remains strong and competitive into the future,” Ms Lansdown said.
