“Dr Russell has been leading TEQSA since mid-last year and her permanent appointment is well-deserved,” Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said.
“This will provide TEQSA with stability and continuity as we enter a significant period of reform.
“TEQSA was established under the Bradley era reforms and has helped strengthen the reputation of our higher education sector. It will continue to play a vital role in a new regulatory environment under the Australian Universities Accord.
“Universities are eagerly awaiting the Government’s response to the Accord final report, and we look forward to continuing to work closely and collaboratively with Dr Russell and TEQSA through this period and beyond to maintain our world-class university system.
“I want to personally thank Emeritus Professor Peter Coaldrake AO for his long and significant contribution to TEQSA and Australia’s higher education sector as Chief Commissioner.
“As one of Australia’s longest serving Vice-Chancellors prior to TEQSA, Peter’s thorough and unique understanding and perspective of universities has been of immense benefit to the Agency.
“I wish Peter all the best in his future endeavours – we’re eager to see what he does next.”
