At the 10th China-Australia Universities Forum being held at Shanghai World Expo Universities Australia announced the China-Australia Executive Leadership Program for 2011 in conjunction with the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE).

The China-Australia Executive Leadership Program is an extension of the China-Australia University Leadership Capacity Building Program and it will include other levels of university management. AEI (Australian Education International) played a vital role in the organisation of the forum where the announcement was made.

"The announcement of this initiative acknowledges and affirms both organisations' continuing support for a highly successful relationship and is an integral part of the Universities Australia-CEAIE Agreement on Cooperation in Higher Education. The Leadership Program contributes to the on-going development of a robust bilateral relationship, through collaboration in higher education and research and development," said Dr Glenn Withers Chief Executive of Universities Australia.

"The Program encourages two-way knowledge transfer between Australian universities and Chinese universities, providing exposure to comparative practice in higher education management and research and research management. The Program enables career development of senior university staff including executives, middle managers and researchers," Dr Withers said.

"The Program has produced strong institutional links and fostered relationships between individual staff, thereby deepening the two countries' understanding of their respective higher education systems and their different and diverse cultures of teaching, learning, research and university management. Over the past ten years Universities Australia has received substantial positive feedback from participating Chinese and Australian universities and staff members," Dr Withers said.

The China-Australia University Leadership Capacity Building Program is a major achievement and a model for future bilateral initiatives.

"Universities Australia looks forward to the commencement of the Program in 2011 which offers the benefits to university senior staff - a key element of this special relationship between China and Australia," Dr Withers said.
